Spark for Mac

3.9. Badge Shows the Wrong Number

There might be several cases when the badge is not displayed correctly. Let's go through the most common cases:

1. There are no unread emails, but badge shows certain number

In this case, please, try to find the unread emails using the Search field by typing "unread" query.

If the results appear and after you read the emails the badge is correct - the issue is resolved.

Also, Gmail accounts show as "unread" not only new emails, but unread chats also. To check them you need to open your account on Gmail webpage, press on the left side "More", choose "Chats".

However, if these are not the case, please, be so kind to send detailed logs from the app to us.

Here are the steps to take:

  1. Click Spark in the upper toolbar
  2. Choose Preferences > General
  3. Turn on Detailed logging
  4. Then wait for the issue to happen
  5. After that go to Help in the upper toolbar and choose Send Feedback  > add a note “incorrect badge count”

2. The badge count is not corresponding to the actual number of unread emails in the Inbox

Make sure that this is not the case that badge displays the count of unread emails and the sidebar count displays the number of the unread threads (which is an expected behavior). If so, we recommend to check whether the unread emails will be found using search by 'Unread'.

In case this is not the case either and you have Gmail account added, please, open your account on Gmail webpage, press on the left side "More", choose "Chats" (make sure there is no unread chats, as they are reflected on Spark's badge as well).

In instances, when none of the above mentioned troubleshooting methods worked, please, make sure that badge count is enabled for all accounts (Spark > Settings/Preferences > Badge > make sure that it is enabled for all accounts.

Lastly, if the issue persists, please, be so kind to send detailed logs from the app to us and the screenshot of the badge count.

Here are the steps to take:

  1. Click Spark in the upper toolbar
  2. Choose Preferences -> General
  3. Turn on Detailed logging
  4. Wait for the issue to happen > make screenshot of the badge
  5. After that go to Help in the upper toolbar and choose Send Feedback  > add a note “incorrect badge count”
